A Chesterfield headboard is a commitment. Scrolled at the top, deeply button-tufted across the face, edged in nailhead trim driven by hand one stud at a time, the Devon does not do understatement and is not trying to.
What keeps it from tipping into period costume is the restraint everywhere else: soft beige fabric, plush foam padding, a clean full-size footprint. The frame is pine and plywood, set on sturdy turned wood legs that carry the traditional line down to the floor. At 57 inches, the headboard is tall enough to read from the doorway and padded enough to lean against for an hour.
