Accessibility Statement for newyorkmodern.com

Prepared: September 2026. Last reviewed: September 15, 2026.

Our commitment

New York Modern Furniture is committed to making our online store usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnification, speech input or keyboard-only navigation. We treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished project. As we add products and update the store, we look for barriers that would stop someone from browsing, comparing or completing a purchase, and we work to remove them.

The standard we work toward

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium, as the benchmark for our work. WCAG 2.2 Level AA includes the earlier WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria.

This page is a statement of intent and current status. It is not a formal declaration of conformance, and we do not claim that our website fully conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We have not published a third-party accessibility conformance report for this site. If you need conformance information for a specific page or task, contact us and we will tell you what we know about it.

What we do

Measures we take as we build and maintain the store include:

  • Structured HTML with a logical heading order and reading order, so screen reader and keyboard users can move through a page predictably.
  • Keyboard access to interactive elements such as menus, buttons, links, forms and the cart, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Descriptive link and button text rather than vague labels.
  • Labels, instructions and error messages on form fields.
  • WAI-ARIA roles and properties where native HTML is not sufficient.
  • Layouts that reflow and stay usable when the page is zoomed or viewed on a small screen.
  • Respect for the reduced-motion setting in your operating system, where the browser reports it.
  • Text alternatives for images we control, and ongoing work to replace older or automatically generated image descriptions with meaningful ones.

How we check

We review the site using a combination of automated accessibility testing, keyboard-only navigation checks and manual review of key pages such as the home page, category pages, product pages and the cart. Automated tools catch only part of what matters, so we also rely on manual checks and on what customers tell us. Accessibility is reviewed when we change the theme or add features, and this statement is reviewed at least once a year.

Known limitations

We want to be straightforward about where the site falls short today:

  • Older product image descriptions. A large share of our catalog was imported, and many product photographs still carry a generic description or none at all. We are working through the catalog to add meaningful descriptions, starting with the products people view most.
  • Color contrast. Some text and interface elements are still under review for contrast against their background.
  • Third-party content. Parts of the store are provided by other companies, including financing tools, customer reviews, chat and embedded media. We choose providers with accessibility in mind, but we do not control their code. Where a third-party element creates a barrier, we will give you the same information or complete the same task for you through another channel.
  • Checkout. Checkout is operated by Shopify on Shopify's own pages and is outside our direct control. If you have difficulty there, call or email us and we will complete the order with you.
  • New content. Content can temporarily fall short after an update, before we find and fix it.

If something does not work for you

Tell us and we will help, and we will fix the underlying problem. There is no need to explain why you are asking.

We aim to reply within one business day. Please tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using, if you know them. That helps us reproduce the problem.

You can order without using the website. If any part of the site or checkout is a barrier, call or email us and we will take your order, answer questions about dimensions, materials, delivery and returns, and arrange payment and delivery with you directly. You will get the same prices and the same promotions.

Alternative formats

If you need product information, an invoice, or any part of our policies in a different format, ask us and we will provide it in a format that works for you.

Technical information

Accessibility of this site relies on HTML, WAI-ARIA, CSS and JavaScript working with your browser and any assistive technology you use. We aim to support current versions of the major browsers and commonly used screen readers. Very old browsers or unsupported configurations may not support every feature.

We do not use an accessibility overlay, toolbar or plug-in that claims to make the site compliant automatically. We do the work in the site itself.

Enforcement and further contact

If you contact us about an accessibility barrier and you are not satisfied with our response, write to us again at support@newyorkmodern.com with “Accessibility escalation” in the subject line, and a member of our team will review the matter directly.

This statement describes our current approach and the status of the site as of the date above. It is not a legal representation of compliance with any particular law or standard.
